Across the picture plane, six swimming fish are surrounded by branches with green leaves and purple and white flowers; the fish are brown, grey, white, mustard yellow, pink, and black with black spots. In April, the print edition appeared and in May, the published edition appeared.
The earliest known example of Gyotaku dates from 1857, featuring a trace of the form of a carp caught in the Mogami River.
