Description
Photo of the Hunting Island Lighthouse, Beaufort was taken while on a photography assignment in South Carolina by Bob Pardue, USA.
Originally built in 1859, the structure was destroyed during the Civil War and rebuilt in 1875.
It has stood as a testament to the community's resilience ever since.
Cast-iron sections were used to construct the lighthouse, allowing it to be disassembled if ever necessary.
Lighthouses are often required to be relocated due to erosion and changing weather patterns, so having interchangeable cast-iron sections makes moving and reassembling them easier.
In 1889, the lighthouse was relocated 1.3 miles inland due to severe beach erosion.
The piece of wall art shown here is available in different sizes.

All of a sudden, I found myself on a beach. And, not just any beach.
This one was strewn with fallen trees and branches from storms and tides past.
Soon, nighttime fell upon me.There was no light -- and no moon!
I never felt so alone as I listened to the mournful sound of gentle waves, washing in; washing out.
In horror, I thought to myself; "I'm lost!"
It took a moment to steady myself and gather my courage to think things through.
The beach looked a bit familiar so I knew that if I walked long enough, I would reach a modicum of civilization.
But, then again; Would I?
No matter, I couldn't just stand there and wait to be rescued. I had to act.
So, I moved one foot in front of the other and began to walk; north I think.
It seemed like forever except I realized I had been walking for only a few hours.
Then, over the horizon I saw a faint light. I couldn't believe my eyes! What was it?
Lo and behold, it was the beacon at the top of the Hunting Island Lighthouse!
No longer did I feel lost. The Beaufort icon was all too meaningful to me as I had photographed it many times.
I hope you never get lost that way. But, if you do, look up for the beacon -- Maybe you'll find it!
