Description
JOB Cigarettes (1912) print in high resolution black and white by Leonetto Cappiello. Original from the Bibliothèque Municipale de Lyon. Digitally enhanced by rawpixel and Bob Pardue.
Leonetto Cappiello was an Italian-French artist and poster designer born in Livorno in 1875.
During his time, Cappiello revolutionized poster illustration. Using unconventional visual impact, he created poster art that engaged audiences faster. The first poster artist to experiment and innovate with the graphical styles of the day, he was known as the first poster artist to do so.
Despite not having any formal training in art, Cappiello is considered the father of modern advertising. This is because of the bold and vivid caricatures he used in his Art Nouveau artworks. Great poster for den decor, office or a man cave wall hanging.
