Description
The digital reproduction of Scenes from the Tales of Ise, Ise monogatari is from the late 18th century. Colorful Japanese artwork at it's best with this piece from times gone by. The image needed quite a bit of editing work but I believe it looks great now!
The Met says about the area: "The merchant and artisan classes reap the greatest benefits from the Edo period’s prosperity and urban expansion. Not only do well-established cities such as Osaka and Kyoto thrive, but new castle towns that serve as the administrative center for provincial daimyo and their samurai retainers are built and grow during this time."
