Description
The Starry Night (1889) by Vincent Van Gogh. Original from Wikimedia Commons. Digitally enhanced by rawpixel and Bob Pardue.
Known posthumously as one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history, Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter. He created 2,100 artworks in a decade, including 860 oil paintings, most of which were created in the last two years of his life.
Post-Impressionism is a term used to describe the reaction in the 1880s to Impressionism. It was characterized by strong, often clashing colors, and bold, expressive brushstrokes, as well as by an emphasis on formal structure.
Known for their bold colors and dramatic, impulsive and expressive brushwork, they have contributed to the foundations of modern art by including landscapes, still life, portraits and self-portraits. At the age of 37, he committed suicide due to severe depression and poverty, as he wasn't commercially successful. This fine art photo by Van Gogh was enhanced by rawpixels and redone by Bob Pardue to add color and "pop".
