The Riding Couple is a painting by the famous Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky, created in 1911. And, it is considered to be one of the most important works of Kandinsky's early career.
It is also one of his best-known works, as it has been widely reproduced in books, magazines and posters. The painting depicts an elegant couple, a man and a woman, on horseback. The man is dressed in an old-fashioned suit and hat and the woman is wearing an orange dress with a long skirt and a pink scarf.
Both are riding in the same direction and appear to be at ease and in harmony with each other. The background is a mix of blues and greens with a hint of yellow, which gives the painting its unique and ethereal feel.
The painting is representative of the artistic style known as Synchromism, which combines visual art with music.
Kandinsky was heavily influenced by this style and used color to evoke feelings of emotion in his viewers.
