Discover the Otherworldly Beauty of White Sands National Monument, New Mexico

Located in the Tularosa Basin, White Sands National Monument is the largest gypsum dune field in the world. It is accessible by foot or by scenic drive.

There are many activities to do here including hiking, camping, and picnicking. The diverse wildlife includes white-tailed jackrabbits, kangaroo rats, roadrunners, coyotes, and birds.

During winter months, visitors can take part in snowshoeing, which is an increasingly popular activity. For those looking for an extra challenge, there is an 11 mile backcountry trail that leads to the Alkali Flat, a large playa where the sky and the desert meet.

The best time to visit White Sands is during spring and fall when the temperatures are cooler and the landscape is less crowded.

At any time of year, the desert sky is breathtakingly beautiful, with a sky that changes from a deep turquoise to a beautiful pink or orange at sunset.

White Sands National Monument is truly one of nature’s most beautiful gems and a must-see site for anyone visiting New Mexico.
