The small town of Mount Airy, North Carolina, is home to a beloved celebrity – the late Andy Griffith. The iconic actor and comedian was born in the town in 1926 and lived there for much of his life.

This beautiful town has many special places that are tied to Griffith, including his childhood home. Andrew ‘Andy’ Griffith was born in Mount Airy and grew up in what is now known as the Andy Griffith Homeplace.

The two-story white frame house was built in the early 1900s by his grandfather. As a young boy, Griffith spent many happy hours playing with friends and family in this home, which continues to be a popular tourist destination.
