The decorative fountain project by Alphonse Mucha is a masterpiece of Art Nouveau, an art movement that flourished in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The fountain was created to be installed indoors, and was intended to be both an aesthetic and functional piece of furniture. It consists of a large, ornate pond filled with water, with seven smaller pools of ever-changing shapes and sizes arranged in a star pattern.
Around the pool is a stylized border adorned with floral motifs and foliage, as well as a central column featuring figures of nude women and mythical beasts.
