Description
Edgar Degas's The Dance Foyer at the Opera on the rue Le Peletier (1872) famous painting. Original from Wikimedia Commons. Enhanced by Rawpixels and Bob Pardue.
About the artist: In spite of the fact that Edgar Degas did not consider himself to be an impressionist, he is considered one of the founding fathers along with Monet, Renoir, and Cezanne. Degas’ paintings capture the spirit of the Impressionist movement by capturing the imagery of “fleeting moments” that are inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints and Manet’s artworks.
Impressionism is a style of painting characterized by short brushstrokes and quickly-painted scenes that seek to capture a moment or an impression of an object, rather than its realistic details.
As well as portraits of ballet dancers, entertainers, sporting events, and commoners, Degas painted scenes of everyday contemporary life. His talent for depicting human psychology is noteworthy. During his later years, Degas experimented with pastels, photography, and sculpture. This vintage artwork makes a wonderful gift idea for a female ballerina or just to use as living room decor wall art.
