The Last Supper is a renowned Renaissance painting created by the master painter, Leonardo da Vinci. The painting is housed in the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, in Milan and it depicts the scene of the Last Supper of Jesus with his twelve apostles. The feast is described in the Gospel of John, 13:21.
This famous painting is striking for its intricate details and its vibrant dynamics. In addition to its physical intricacies, it is also noteworthy for its symbolic meanings.
The composition is symmetrical and well-balanced, with three groups of four figures on both sides of the table. The figures are interacting with one another in different ways, often conveying their different emotions about the news that Jesus has just revealed to them - that one of them will betray him.
