Description
Sun Records where Elvis Presley made his first recording in Memphis, Tennessee, USA.
Sun Records History
In February of 1952, Sam Phillips launched his record company. He named it Sun Records to symbolize his perpetual optimism: a new day and a new beginning. In order to create his own all-purpose studio, Sam rented a small space at 706 Union Avenue.
As the number of independent labels grew, the label was launched. The Sun label quickly gained a reputation for treating local artists honestly and respectfully throughout Memphis. Creative and visionary thinking was encouraged in Sam's non-critical and spontaneous environment.
Sun Records recording studio was the first label to record Elvis Presley, Charlie Rich, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash making it a famous icon in Memphis; and throughout the world.
